Cyanuric Acid, also known as Chlorine Pool Stabiliser or Conditioner protects chlorine from rapid depletion by the sun’s UV rays. Cyanuric acid acts as a “stabiliser” which aids chlorine to hold up better when exposed to the UV rays; as the sun can eat up to 1 ppm (part per million) of chlorine every hour if it’s not protected.
Outdoor swimming pools can benefit the most from having a proper level of Cyanuric acid in the pool water. You should maintain a correct level of cyanuric acid, 30 to 50 ppm (mg/L), to inhibit rapid chlorine loss. If the cyanuric acid level is too low, you will need to add more to the water. Though, it is important to note that cyanuric acid will make the pH of the water lower (more acidic), thus, you may have to increase the pH level also.
